Haunted

One minute I was naked in class, and the next I was falling off a cliff. And suddenly I was in a hotel room, and there she was.

"I flew in from Indianapolis," she said, and I think I knew then at some level that I was dreaming. We smiled, and we laughed, and after a few minutes I pulled her close, and we shared a kiss.

"It's a shame we've never met," she said, and I asked her what she meant. She smiled again. And then my teeth fell out, and I was snapped from my dream.

There was nothing the next night.

And then I was asleep again, and being chased. And then I couldn't find the bathroom. And then I was lost. And things were getting more frayed, more confusing,

And then there she was. We stood there, in that same hotel room, but we weren't alone. Her boyfriend stood in the corner. "It's terrible that we don't speak anymore," I say, "We used to be so close."

"You never meant anything to me," she says flatly. And her boyfriend, looking like Brad Pitt, laughs and laughs in the voice of my father.

She says one more thing before my eyes open:

You let me die.
