If I only was a coach...

If you haven't heard yet, http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4608686 is a link to the story, at its latest and most complete.

Apparently, Coach Locksley, here at UNM, went bonkers on an assistant, grabbing him up and choking him, punching him in the face and drawing blood. I have heard the people (HILLBILLIES ALL) who defend Locksley's actions. And I understand violence. I've been violent. I realize football is violent, and shit happens. Here's why I still think Locksley is wrong:

1) He is bigger, and the assistant was sitting (from what I understand). It was a bum rush, and that's just crap. Call someone out, get in their face, and if the fists go, they go. No foul.

2) The University has a zero-tolerance (supposedly) policy on violence. I got burned for being rude to a fellow classmate and tossing down an unsharp tool 5 feet away from anyone but myself. But, since he's got half a mil going TO him, and I only paid IN $6000 a year, it's okay that he throttles and slugs a subordinate employee?

3) The coverup is where the shit hits the fan. If there's nothing to hide (if it went down like Locksley maintains, or even how I said above--fair's fair) then why cover it up and LIE REPEATEDLY? The coaches signed statements to POLICE that he choked and slugged the ASST and yet the Athletic Director says noone will corrobarate. Why?

4) This ain't Locks' first fuckup. He's already been accused of sexual discrimination (running out a female assistant he felt "didn't attract recruits," or so the claim goes. Here's the thing: I don't really believe her charges, but this is strike two, in a lot of eyes, and rather than address the situation seriously, you cover up for the guy? PLEASE.

5) Locksley has a history of violence, and he doesn't have much to his credit other than being the top recruiter for Ron Zook (of www.fireronzook.com fame) and leading a very talented offense for what, two years? You know, speaking of hillbillies, I've heard the "Affirmative Action" claim, that if he was white and did this shit he'd be canned, and I gotta start to wonder. MAybe Krebs is scared of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? I doubt it. But again, if there's nothing to hide, why not be overt?

So, what do you think, people? Was Locksley in the right? Is this all "just football" and the asst. being a "baby?"

If it helps, Wallboy, Locksley's a Republican.
