Is it Really that Big of a Deal?

I’m sure this has been discussed until we are all blue in the face, but this whole ebaum banning thing is not that big of a deal.

Disclaimer: This is not meant to offend anyone and I do not claim to be the end all and fountain of all that is wise and knowledgeable.  As usual it is just my two cents.

Anyway, this whole thing needs to be put in perspective.  Who the hell cares about being banned or suspended or whatever?  For crying out loud this is Ebaums World.  This isn’t the Deep South where blacks had to sit at the back of the bus, or drink from different drinking fountains, or use separate bathrooms or go to an all black school.  Are you getting the picture here?  Is this what some, but not all of you have to sit and worry about?  So what, a moderator got pissed off, brought out a huge broom and started sweeping.  Some of you who are complaining need to crawl out from behind the keyboard and go experience the world.  But, we do have a smattering of mature and worldly people here.  I am not going to name them, because they know whom they are.  Anyway, Elim got banned and lost all his points and uploads, etc…  Hey, I like Elim, he and I agree on topics 95% of the time, so this is not meant to insult him, but ebaums is not the real world and he got spanked.  He lost all his points, not a million dollars.  A few days ago I thought I saw someone mention freedom of speech and ebaums violating it.  Give me a break.  This is not a public access government website.  This is not a public protest and everyone is marching in the streets.  This is a privately owned website, and the owner can do what he pleases.  If he wants to shut the whole thing down he can and not have to explain himself.  Now I realize it was a moderator who created this so called “outrage of banning and civil rights infringement,” but this needs to be kept in perspective.  I saw other blogs and comments about “Uniting” and “choosing sides!” or “starting a revolution!”  Cripes if you want to protest something, then go protest the early release of pedophiles from prison who go out and molest children again and again, while white-collar criminals sit in prison for 20 years without parole.  Or go find out why your local government lines its pockets with money yet, they cut the wages and raise the insurance of the city employees.  Worry about real problems, not this petty shit on ebaums.

One more thing.  I want to touch on the freedom of speech thing one more time.  I am not a lawyer, but I am very knowledgeable on the Constitution and Constitutional law.  With that being stated let me tell you yes, you all have the right to say and type what you want, but as stated earlier ebaums has the right to determine what they will allow on the blogs.  They have every right and sometimes an obligation to monitor racist or inflammatory comments that some ignorant people feel they need to put on ebaums.  I admit some of the inflammatory comments crack me up, but the racist ones piss me off and I am glad they are not tolerated.  The US Supreme Court has made rulings in the past on such remarks or billboards or any other public forum using inflammatory and racist comments.  They have also ruled against people who feel the need to use foul language in certain settings.  Even here in backwards Arizona the disorderly conduct statute covers the use of abusive or foul language.  In certain settings and if it causes a disruption of the peace, you can have your ass thrown in jail for the way you talk.  I bring all this up to point out to some of you who feel you should be able to say and do as you please wherever and wheneveryou want.  This is not the case, and it is not always a violation of your free speech rights.  Some of you need to mature a little and know when not to flame someone or use foul language.  And, the argument about not going to ebaums if you don’t like it is pure crap.  That’s like saying don’t go to the mall if you don’t want your kids to hear all the foul language from teenagers or don’t take your family to see a professional sports team because people swear.  I say that is complete and utter crap.  People should know when to use their manners and know when that type of language is appropriate.  Now, I am a realist and realize these things happen, but I am just trying to make a point.  I still take my family out to the mall and we go watch hockey when the Redwings come to Phoenix, I mean I am not a prude, but I will not sit there and listen to some idiot behind me drop F bombs in front of my kids.  I will turn around and politely ask him to stop using that language.  I have every right too.  I do not have to move, but I guarantee if he refuses to cease and desist, he will be thrown out of the arena on his ass. Anyway, I digress.

The bottom line is, yes it sucks, some people got banned, thrown out, whatever.  And yes it was not fair if Elim got tossed because he pissed someone off, I agree.  And, I also think it is not fair that he got tossed while others who consistently write crap and useless trash are allowed to remain.  But, it happened and I am sure it will probably happen again, but so what.  Some of my comments have been removed as well.  I am not going to cry about, I’m going to keep writing and commenting like I always have.  Because let me tell you as many of you already know, there is a big bad world out there and when you finally see it first hand you will sit back and realize how ridiculous all this whining about ebaum banning really is.  Of course you could probably say I’m whining about all the whining.
