Oktoberfest

Well it's time again to celebrate Bavarian Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen, better known as Oktoberfest. It starts September 20th and runs until October 5th in Munich, Germany. The wedding was held on October 12, 1810 and Oktoberfest is held at the same park.

I went in 2005 and will be going again this year. There is a big parade on opening day that ends at the park. That is where they will ceremoniously tap the first keg of beer and begin the festivities, the official start of Oktoberfest. I'm really not a fan of parades but I must admit, this parade is really cool. It tells the history of Germany, more specifically Bavaria, and shows how the lifestyles have changed throughout history.

If you have never been, I highly recommend it. It's not all about drinking beer and eating wurst. It is a very kid-friendly environment, except for in the beer halls at night. I honestly believe it should be on everyone's list of things to do before dying. If you have been there, please share a story.
