Something you never thought I would do.

Nixon claimed: “I want to make this perfectly clear. I am not a crook.” Clinton stated, much more recently: “I didn't inhale.” Tonight comes the news that I, Dominus, went a little overboard.

There are two things I want to say “I'm sorry” about. First of all, there's the fact that while bluenote was going off about his alter-ego Happylifetime, I was keeping silent about an alter-ego that I am officially killing off.

The reason I'm not using it anymore is because it just isn't working on this site. It was established as a political satire tool that has fallen flat. The trouble is that everyone seems to take the things said by my alter-ego too literally, so I am getting rid of MeBeObama.

The truth of the matter is that I don't like Obama very much myself. Not that I liked McCain either. I'm more of a political radical and I feel that whatever damage we have done ourselves by electing Obama would have been worsened by electing McCain. For me it's not a consideration of either-or. I believe the whole system is rigged to make it's own failures while it creates an environment of self-justification. It's like trying to fix a car while driving it. While you can make a couple quick patches there is no way it's going to work without pulling it in and overhauling it with the right tools.

And going off on this tangent, I really don't think we are using the right tools. When Time magazine displayed a picture of Obama in the garb of president Franklin Delano Roosevelt I was amused; but that really is what we need right now. Another Roosevelt. Or rather, a pair of them as Elenore was just as much an instrument of change as her husband was. But honestly I don't think that will be possible.

Bipartisan derision will cause lame-duck sessions to grind congress to a halt. Not because of the laws themselves, but because in doing so the Republicans can make Obama look like a failure. After all, if he can't get his laws of “change” to pass then what has he achieved? Multinational corporations will continue to run roughshod over the government. Not in spite of people's desire to fix things, but instead because the congresspeople, justices, and executors of law are the shareholders in those self-same corporations. Everyone knows why companies like Haliburton got such huge contracts. And as long as such “legalized misappropriations” are allowed to continue they will.

Meanwhile, the voting system of the United States will continue to be misused and misrepresented. Of course there are huge national discrepancies, such as two infamous Floridian elections, but then there's the fact that even with “the largest turnouts ever” the 2008 election only had about a third of registered voters casting ballots. And another example is what has happened in Philadelphia. They frequently place items on the ballot such as “should the city spend 40 million dollars to repair our drinking water and sewage systems?” However, when it came time to build new stadiums, the mayor spent nearly 600 million in taxpayer money to buy two new stadiums for privatized franchises. Voters were never asked if they wanted to spend their money that way.

So I really don't believe one man, or even a simple majority, working within a system that supports all of this, can make a difference. I am praying we have another FDR. But honestly, we'll be lucky if we get a Carter.

The other thing is, I wanted to apologize for going off so often earlier this week. Frequently, I was insulting just for the sake of being insulting and that isn't something I want to be. Yeah, I do like using insults as much as anyone, but when I do so I would prefer to use them creatively. The truth is that I was just is so much fucking pain all week that it was starting to get to me and I just wanted to lash out. I'm not seeking forgiveness; that should only ever come with future contributions. But I did want to actually say I was sorry to those I really got out of line with.

Anyway, until next time...keep your powder dry.

Me, me...and me.
