Stupidity Begets Stupidity

Growing up as a child the visuals of people fumbling, tripping, getting hurt was only funny because the actors involved were clowns. When people actually hurt themselves it was considered rude to laugh at their expense.

The last generation has turned this idea on it's head. Now it seems, not only laughing at people who hurt themselves is entertaining, but being the dumb ass who purposefully or stupidly injures themselves is cool.  It may have started with America's Funniest Home Videos with babies falling asleep, hitting  the floor and banging the side of it's head or some old man falling down a staircase.  Of course, the first Jackass movies created a kind of cult out of acting stupid.

As we can see, stupidity begets stupidity. This whole concept of having accidents for entertainment purposes is a stupidity making machine gone mad. Kids today think it is funny to do the most outrageous annoying  acts in order to upset people or get a laugh at their own or others expense. No it's not funny, it's foolishness.  Foolishness are acts of stupidity. And all that has come out of this behaviour is more and more stupidity.

Elbert Hubbard wrote:  "Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped."

Could this be the reason there are so many foolish acts because stupidity knows no bounds?  Or perhaps intelligent creative ideas are too difficult for the average person to conceive. Perhaps, but I think it is also the result of lazy minds full of stupidity and ignorance that propels the acts of idiots to acts of entertainment.

Gustave Flaubert wrote:  "Here is true immorality: ignorance and stupidity; the devil is nothing but this. His name is Legion."

It is very important to understand the difference between ignorance and stupidity, because when they come together in any great number horrible ills will come to mankind. Even if only five to ten percent of people fall into this category the social costs are potentially huge. From what I am observing in current society this number may be as high as twenty percent and going higher. The majority of kids and young adults I observe are good decent people, but the amount of idiots has grown dramatically since I was a kid. For me at least it is like watching a long zombie movie as the population slowly turns to a zombie state.

Dwight D. Eisenhower wrote:  "I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity."

War is stupidity and the guns are getting bigger. Some war is justified and required, but it is only so because of someone else's stupidity. As the wars grow around the world we will also witness a great surge in the numbers of stupid people and ignorant people carrying out immoral acts in greater and greater numbers. A new dark age has begun.

"In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that He did not also limit his stupidity."    Konrad Adenauer
