The Concert

My wife's friend couldn't go see Gordon Lightfoot as planned. I went somewhat reluctantly. I'm not really a fan of easy listening folk music, but Lightfoot is a great Canadian and had a few hits in the past.

When my friends and I would party on the beaches in Toronto, Lightfoot would sometimes come down and sit by our camp fire and sing us some tunes. That was 20 years or more ago.

A couple of months ago it was reported that Gordon Lightfoot had died. Last night Lightfoot quoting Mark Twain said, " the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated".

His band does 14 shows in 17 days. Last night being the 14th day, the parting stopped about 1985. At 75 years old he put on a good show.

It was somewhat boring for me but the melodies, reminiscent of my youth, stood the test of time. The band was in top form with some sweet riffs from the guitarist and bassist.

Would I go again? Probably not but I am glad I did. Support for great musicians is required, if the future is to bring us some new great artists.

Cheers to the men of the Edmund Fitzgerald!
