To alcohol, the cause of all our problems aparently

Many of you out there who remember me from my early days of this site know that I have a long standing hatred of alcohol and those who drink it excessively or use it as a rape aid (you know who you are). My hatred formerly stemmed from my just not getting the point of self destruction and not needing help being insane. As it turns out there seems to, theoretically, be even greater harm done to humanity then massive amounts of murders, accidents and sexual crimes every year. Alcohol may be the sole reason we are failing as a culture. Here:http://www.aina.org/ata/20060827151956.htm

It is suggested that alcohol is the motivation for settled agrictural subsistence, which in turn was what gave rise to the need for totalitarian agriculture. A biref ecology lesson is in order here. The type of agriculture practiced by this culture, the one that covers the world now, is a type like no other in the millions of years of human history. The premise of it is to make everything into human sustaining mass. To do this one must turn every bit of land into grazing land for our cattle and space for our crops to grow, every buit of nutrients in the soil must be requisitioned for only this and every predator that would eat our cattle must be exteriminated, along with parasites and insects that threaten crops. This is holy work to farmers, it probably doesn't come as a surprise I'm sure. What might not be a consideration is that for all the food that is produced, the population grows, as it has been doing. argue distrubutuion all you like, the fact is that if there is more people they are being nourished by more food. You can tell me some are starving, but starvation is not about there not being enough food it's about who is getting it. The potential for food is finite, but the potential for growth is infinite. What happens when we run out of potential human sustaining mass, then we would be able to sustain no further humans. The trouble with that is what we sustain ourselves with is sustained by other things. Soil needs nutrients, these come from dead bodies provided by other organisms and broken down by detritivore. These bodies come from predators and prey alike, both of which we are destroying in our expansion to continue to produce more food at a rate of 200 species a day and climbing. You may think it will never effect you, or there will always be irrelevant species to destroy but it is not so. In fact honey bees are disapearing. So what you say. I hate bees. Hate them or not we need thier cross polinization to keep fruting plants growing, both to feed ourselves and our cattle.

I have gotten onto a bit of a rant. My point here was that the desire to get wasted seems to have started us down this path. So..thanks alcohol.
