Dress for Monday is Business Casual...

.

.

.

Last week, I had to send an email to all of my techs, letting them know that an important potential customer was coming into the office on Monday.

"...Make sure your workstations are tidy and the dress will be business casual.  No jeans, no t-shirts..."

I woke up this morning at my normal time of 3:00am.  Got dressed in slacks and a dress shirt, and tie.  After dressing, I hear a familiar little cough coming from the room across the hall.

I leave the bedroom and Hunter must have seen me pass by his room, because he starts standing up and calling for me (in the way a 15 month old calls).  I go back and pick him up and take him downstairs with me to try and get him calmed before I leave at 5:00am.

He is very tired, and goes to sleep within minutes of me carrying him around downstairs.  I set him on the couch and finish my morning routine.  When I take him back upstairs he isn't completely asleep and smiles at me as I turn on his nightlight.  He puts a hand on my face as I lay him in his Pack-N-Play.  These are the moments I live for.

Not two minutes after getting to work, someone askes me if I had a toothpaste accident.  What the hell is a "Toothpaste Accident" I asked.  They only pointed to my left shoulder, laughed and walked away.

A white-ish stain on my dress shirt, which is dark blue, stands out prominently as if to defy all the work I put into looking decent this morning.  At first I start to say "What the Fu.." but then it dawns on me.  Hunter must have given me a nice little drool present this morning that I didn't notice until it was too late.

I learned a few lessons from this experience:

1.)  Always keep a spare shirt in your car, or office.

2.)  It is easy tell which of the "customers" that you might meet have kids.

3.)  Nothing comes out with water alone.

I now have a spare shirt in my office.  It hangs there, just in case, I ever have a lapse in judgement regarding my suroundings.  It has a drool stain on the left shoulder, and everytime I look at it, I am reminded of why I do what I do.  It hangs as a salute to those I love and without whom, I would be worthless...

Thank you Hunter.
