Russian Roulette

This is a true story and this blog was inspired by a blog by sparks158 and a suggestion by milestyles55. It happened when I was in high school. The guy's name was Eddie.

Eddie was a couple years older than me and by the time I reached high school he had already dropped out. He didn't put much stock in education but I guess you could say he liked chemistry because he was always looking for a way to get high.

I didn't hang out with Eddie so I wasn't there when this happened. But, I did see the aftermath so I believe the story as it was told to me.

Apparently Eddie was sitting at home one afternoon getting high, or more like maintaining his high, when some of his friends showed up. He had recently purchased a revolver and was excited to show it to them. After it was passed around and everyone had a chance to look it over he opened the cylinder and put in a single bullet. He spun the cylinder and flicked his wrist to close it. I don't know if he cocked the hammer or if it was double action but I do know that he put it to his chin and pulled the trigger.

*CLICK* It was an empty chamber.

Now, I don't know if he opened the cylinder and spun it again or if he just cocked the hammer. Either way, he showed a severe lack of knowledge of the law of probability. He pulled the trigger again.

*BOOM* Not so lucky this time.

Incredibly he was still conscious and aware of his surroundings. He also had the state of mind to run to the fire station which was only about three blocks from his house. A good friend of mine almost ran over him as he ran across the street right in front of his truck. My friend said he was driving along when suddenly some dude drenched in blood holding his face ran right in front of him.

He was taken to the hospital where he made a full recovery. Some friends and I ran into him several months later and talked with him a little bit about what happened. The bullet destroyed all of his front teeth on top, his palate, sinus, and one eye. It lodged in his forehead. Now he has false teeth and a prosthetic eye. Not sure if there was brain damage but with Eddie it's hard to tell.

I just looked him up in the DOC search engine and it looks like he's on parole. He was in prison for forgery (this time). Good to see he's made something of himself.
