Blood
I enjoy my work, making the home life more comfortable and keeping things square, level and clean. I work for a lot of professionals which gives me good pay for a job well done.
99% of my jobs are referred, so there is a sense of trust on both sides. I do my best to provide an exceptional job at a reasonable price.
Once in a while I run into the job that was a job unfinished. I explain to the customer, there is no way for me to know what is done right and what is done wrong until I pull things apart.
I can provide an estimate based on experience as to what the project will cost, but cannot guarantee those costs until more exploratory measures are taken.
Most people insist on a figure, and so I explain the best and worse case scenarios. Most people I deal with trust me, (based on reputation), and accept the bill I provide them.
Other people after I have repaired breeches in their roofing, plumbing and electrical get defensive. Look I just protected your home from water damage, mold infiltration and possible fire damage, give me some credit. But No they complain of the cost after I saved them from thousands of dollars in damage from water or electrical faults.
Today I installed some interior doors, I had six installed by noon. I was mortising a strike and slit my palm. Blood brothers anyone? The nurse, (my customer), who works at the children's hospital in emergency could not find any first aid supplies in her house. I sent my assistant out to get my first aid kit. After about a half hour I was bandaged up. Thank God I didn't hit a major vein.
Tomorrow I will finish installing those doors for her, pack up my tools and move onto more appreciative customers. I love working for myself and work hard at providing great service, I know my work is superior and will not accept customers who are inferior!
