A Lesson in Depression

My Depression: a blanket, threaded with despair
Tucks over my body, cuts off my air
I'm walking blind, totally unaware
Struggling to grab hold, open up a tear
Try to get free, of this worry I wear
Something in my brain, makes synapses flair
Chemical imbalance, of which I'm well aware
My blood flows with sadness, unable to repair
Marching with Misery, up endless stairs

I'm not alone in this burden I bear
There's millions of others, this pain we both share
Homeless and jobless, bankruptcy declared
Lost, battered and broken, I see it in their stares
Disillusioned and empty, in society's snare
Suddenly, we realize, the leaders don't care

And I look again, at this blanket I wear
Everyone's now at my level, I'm properly prepared
I throw out my art, to the masses here and there
An honest expression, nowadays is so rare
My cover now shields me, and may the bankers beware
Cuz there are more riches, than a stack of gold's glare...
