Shooting at the Clark County Shooting Complex

I live about ten minutes away from a world class shooting range.  It's mammoth.

I've been going at least once a week for a few months now.  My kids love it.  I also take my girlfriend and her son (J).  I've been buying some cheap-ass .357 rounds from the gun show for less than $300/thousand.  They make your guns dirty as shit, but shoot really well.  I've fired a few thousand and have yet to have a misfire or dud.  They're totally unjacketed and a 158 grain bullet, but you can't beat the price.

J and I were out on Sunday at the pistol range, which allows you to set targets between 3 and 50 yards.  It's perfect for my Henry as 50 yards is a fair shot with open, factory sights.  Plus we can shoot the GP100 afterwards at shorter range.  We decided to shoot the rifle first and set the target at 50 yards.

There's our targets way down there.  The Henry and the Ruger are on the table and that ugly red bag has about 500 rounds in it.

During the cease fire, a few guys set up their targets next to ours and were shooting AR-15s with holographic red dot sights.  They were loud, said "fuck" every other word, and were extra proud of their rifles.  The Henry, compared to other rifles, is very quiet when it fires as it uses a pistol round instead of a proper rifle bullet.  It's much more quiet than my revolver even though they use the same round.  It's an attractive rifle and you don't see many lever actions at the range, so we got their attention.  They made it clear that they considered it a novelty rather than a proper rifle.

J and I smoked the shit out of them.  We took turns pumping round after round into the black rings on our targets while they were all over the place and even having occasional misses.  With their heavy duty, military style rifles with their advanced optics, they couldn't hang in there with the old fashioned cowboy gun with the open sights.  They were visibly frustrated.  A couple of them even wanted to take a second look at my rifle.  I let them each pop off a few rounds with it.  J didn't do quite as well as I, but here's my target:

I'm really enjoying the Henry rifle.  At 50 yards, it's practically shoot a beer can off your head accurate.  My bullets cost about 1/2 as much as a regular rifle bullet and are insanely accurate at up to 100 yards.  I'm glad I bought it.
