Richard Sherman's Greed AKA the Swag Bag

It is that time of year again when men will be boys and the excitement levels are higher than any time since the Christmas's of there youth. Super Bowl and all the pomp and circumstance that surround it is here. The magical by week when all things NFL will be dissected and over analyzed.

In the year of deflate gate and yet another black mark against the Pats( isn't it funny that the Pats seem to be the only team ever caught cheating). Along comes Richard Sherman again. I do agree with him on one thing, the Pats will never receive the punishment that they deserve, but that's not what this is about. no it is about Sherman's greed. Sherman who made $3,676,606.00 in 2014, and is set to make $12,200,000.00 in 2015, the first year of his 4 year $57 million dollar contract. Why are these numbers relevant? Sherman decided to go on a rant about the NFL not giving Swag Bags to Pro Bowl voted players that make the Super Bowl. He wasn't worried about playing in the Pro Bowl, just about not getting his free stuff. This is a guy who will be able to find more money between his sofa cushions, than most people will make in a year, complaining that he didn't get another unneeded phone or watch.

I have a problem with the idea of so called Swag Bags being given to people that have the financial ability to buy the items included, with their pocket change. Sherman just showed how disconnected some people can be with reality. How material greed can be so important that it trumps good sense. The Swag Bags given out at some of these events can reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Couldn't that money be spent better.

How about instead of giving these gifts to people that really don't need them; the cash value gets donated to local charities. Better yet when it comes to events like the Super Bowl and others that change venues each year, work with local agencies and find some deserving families to donate the money to. The poor family that can't pay their bills, the single mother struggling to make ends meet. How many kids could have their college or university paid for, if someone would just stand up and say no, I don't need this. We can do better and we should always strive to. this goes beyond just the Swag Bags, this past weekend the NHL hosted its All-star game. Over the weekend 3 new cars were awarded, once again to athletes that don't need them. Why is it that a donation can't be made in the winner's name?

I am calling for the end of unneeded greed. I am asking for 1 person to help start a change. 1 person to say I want to help, I don't need this, someone else needs it more. 1 person to stand up and inspire more to follow. Its okay Richard you can keep your seat, we got this.
