McF*cked Up Things McDonald's Has Done

McDonald’s has been demonized and touted as the corporation that has single-handedly made Americans side-show attraction fat, and because of this, everyone knows that McDonald’s is bad for you. But do people know all the other ways McDonald’s is bad? Here are some sketch things that good ‘ole Mickey D’s has been accused of over the years.

Special Sauces and 3rd Degree Burns

Earlier this year McDonald’s management was accused of advising workers to treat burns and other injuries with condiments. Which, unless it was in a company memo, isn’t necessarily McDonald’s fault, besides the fact that they’re not supplying their stores with first aid kits (though making sure they stay freshly stocked with fucking idiots). The chain said this was just a heartless ploy to discredit them. Poor, helpless McDonald’s can’t even protect itself from the big, scary, minimum wage burger-slingers.

Under-employs

In the US and around the world McDonald’s has been accused of intentionally scheduling employees who are able to work full-time for less than part-time work, mostly so they don’t have to give them benefits and retirement plans etc. This type of work agreement is referred to as a “zero-hour contract”, meaning the company can choose to schedule you for as much or as little work as they see fit, but that they’re also not responsible for giving you any work at all. Although this idea is generally accepted and widely practiced throughout the corporate world, that doesn’t mean the big red clown shoe up your ass will hurt any less.

Underpays

Mcdonald’s, along with a few other harbingers of childhood obesity (Walmart, mainly), have gotten a lot of flack recently for not paying their customers a living wage. The argument has been made that so many of these chain’s workers are on welfare that corporations like McDonald’s have ended up costing American taxpayers billions of dollars in medicare, food stamps and other aid. McDonald’s response? Let them eat burgers.

The McDonald’s Budget

Only slightly less terrible than paying their employees next to nothing was when McDonald’s tried to teach their employees how to live on their shitty budget. If you’ve been on the internet anytime in the last year you probably heard about the McDonald’s budget. It made headlines for several weeks because it was equal parts something to laugh at and be mortified by. The worst offenses? They said health insurance was $20, which is patently bullshit (thanks Obamacare). They listed monthly heating costs as $0 and they factored in a second job. As in, McDonald’s assumed their workers had to work somewhere else just to make ends meet. So. Would you like fries with your schadenfreude?

Supersized Tax Evasion

In 2014, France accused McDonald’s of hiding more than $3 billion worth of earnings in Swiss subsidiaries to avoid paying their share of corporate taxes. Pretty straight forward, also not remotely surprising. Hiding assets in Switzerland is a time-honored tradition for the obscenely wealthy but morally bankrupt, and if it was good enough for the Nazis it’s good enough for the world’s most famous clown. Yup, just another day of McDonald’s putting the $ in $hady a$ fuck.
