My generation and memory.

The other day I was having a conversation with a man in his 60’s.  We talked about several things, and he seemed to be able to vividly recall events from his youth.  It surprised me, because he seemed to be able to remember many more things about his childhood than I ever could of mine and I’m nearly four decades younger.  Maybe it’s because I drink too much, or maybe it’s a generational problem.  People my age are growing up in this “wham-bam thank you ma’am” culture.  We’re drowning in a sea of disposable entertainment with sites like this and their 30 second videos, blogs, funny pictures, and our iPods, e-mails, iPhones, plasma TV’s, fast food, reality TV shows, Batman movies, commercials, celebrity sex tapes, LimeWire, podcasts, burned CDs/DVDs….    I wouldn’t be surprised if 20 years from now we all have Alzheimer’s.   Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all the technological fruits the 21st century has to offer.  I just wonder if we are paying a price for it mentally, because essentially we are training our minds to forget the information we are taking in as soon as we are finished with it.  Ask yourself this question, what’s the first memory you have in your life?  How old were you at the time?  Can you remember Kindergarten?  Younger?  It will be interesting to read some of the responses.  I can remember when I was a toddler and could manage to walk around a bit, my older brother told me to go suck an egg.  So, being all of three years old, I waddled over to the fridge and took an egg out of the fridge.  Of course I dropped it and I remember my Mom getting pissed off at me.  I remember telling her, “Buh Matt tole me ta do it!”  I just remember her being pissed off.  What are some of your first memories?
