While I know that there are plenty of people out there that are intelligent and Republican, I just dont get a few things. Perhaps the ebaums community can help me to understand.

How do so many Republicans play on Christianity while bitch slapping the poor? The bible states that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into heaven. Yet Republicans passionately despise programs such as medicaid, SSI disabiltiy, and anything else that helps the poor. This seems to be inconsistant with the teachings of Jesus, who seemed to favor the poor. Why is that.

Secondly, how is it that Republicans can be so anti abortion? They claim that it is because they respect the sanctity of human life. Yet they are pro death penalty. And pro war. How is that? Does the sanctity of human life begin at conception and end at birth?

Many more things perplex me, but the Christian thing is the biggest. How do you claim that Christ is in your corner when you act contrary to his teachings on these issues. How can you claim a moral superiority when your moral positions conflict with your other moral positions?
