I was just watching a video on youtube and I saw a AR-15 blow up in someones face. It got me thinking about all the storys the soldiers & Marines in the Vietnam war would tell about how the M16 was a peace of crap. Even our troops in Iraq &
Afghanistan complain about it. I was wondering if any of you study firearms/infantry rifles and what you thought about it. I personally beleive that the G36 is the best modern day assault rifle. H&K is smart because they manufacture the rifle in two different calibers, 5.56mm (.223) & 7.62mm (.308). This allows each individual to chose between calibers that each have their own strongpoint. The U.S. manufactured M16/AR-15 is only available in 5.56mm. Although H&k has recently developed an M16 style rifle that is very much improved over the original, and it is also offered in the larger & more powerful 7.62mm. I believe it is called a HK416. Barett (made famous by the Barett .50cal) has copied H&K and come out with the same idea. The UMP 45 (from H&K) has to be one of the most breakthrough weapons of the last 50 years. I consider it to be a 21st century Tommy Gun. It shoots a .45 ACP and is a very well built weapon. If you guys have seen live free or die hard with Bruce Willis it is the gun the bad guys use when they break into the computer geeks apartment and pretty much blow the walls down. I learned recently that U.S. copied the G36 in the form of the M8. I understand why we don't want to get our guns from Germany but maybe it's time we give in and accept that the Germans have the best engineering in the world.
