INDIAN DOWRY

Proud Foot, the son of a Navajo chief was coming of age to marry. In the North American frontier during the early 1800s, it was customary for Indian tribes to give a dowry in exchange for the hand of another chief's daughter in marriage.

In this case, the Navajo gathered as much maize as they could harvest and brought it to the Sioux chief as a dowry for his daughter, Soaring Eagle.

At first, when shown the 15 bushels of corn, the Sioux chief refused. "Not enough maize. Need 30 bushel for Soaring Eagle," he discontently said.

So, the Navajo people went back to their village and waited until the following year to harvest more corn. Once harvested, they went back to the Sioux chief with the 30 bushels of corn, which he gladly accepted. The Sioux people were happy, as they were hungry and needed the food.

And so it went, the Sioux chief offered up his daughter's hand to Proud Foot. They had a nice ceremony, danced by the fire and engaged in other stupid things that Indians did.

Immediately after the dancing ritual, the bride's father led the young married couple to a wigwam, where Proud Foot and Soaring Eagle were supposed to engage in their first sexual encounter. As the young man sprawled out on the bed with his new bride, he slipped her clothing off, undressed himself, rolled her on her back and climbed on top of her - assuming the missionary position.

All of a sudden, he felt a large hand on his neck. Startled, he looked over his shoulder and saw the bride's father - the Sioux chief. He had an angrily fuming face and demeanor.

"What troubles you Chief?" asked the bewildered young man. "I thought this was how it was supposed to be. We are married now."

"DOING IT WRONG!!!" shouted the bride's father. "FRONT HOLE - MONEY HOLE! REAR HOLE - CORN HOLE."
