Steam rises from the ocean as lava from Mount Kilauea in Hawaii flows into the sea. Lava can reach temperatures of between 700 and 1200 degrees celsius. Kilauea is the most active of the five volcanoes that together form the island of Hawaii and has been erupting continuously since 1983.
