China Is Cracking Down on Fanfic Writers
If you “ship,” you could be shipped off to jail!

Here in the U.S., if you want to write about SpongeBob and Iron Man getting into a hot-and-heavy relationship, you can, and the only ones who will have a problem with it are God and your therapist.
However, over in China, things work a little bit differently. The government has much stricter laws regarding spicy content, and if you’re caught producing it, you could be in a world of trouble.
As it turns out, this doesn’t only apply to those who take pictures and make videos. Recently, writers of fanfiction are saying that the government is cracking down on them for producing gay romance stories for social media. They claim that they’re being arrested and questioned, something that doesn’t appear to be happening to those producing content about straight relationships.
So far, it seems that no one has been convicted, but if they are, they could be looking at 10 years or more of prison, provided that they profited from their work.
Would you risk 10 years in jail for a little gay smut?
