Have you ever been a little over the speed limit, then caught a cop driving right alongside you? Chances are that they were trying to match your speed in order to determine whether you were speeding. This is called “pacing,” and it’s in no way a challenge to a race.

This Florida man apparently didn’t know that, as he was recently arrested for hitting 120 mph after claiming that he thought a cop was challenging him to a street race.

According to MotorBiscuit, while he stopped when he was hit with the flashing lights, he told the officer that he genuinely believed he was throwing the gauntlet for a freeway 1v1. In short, the cop was not, and the driver is now facing punishment under Florida’s “super speeder” law.
