French Influencer Jailed After Pretending to Inject Strangers With a Syringe

The punishment does not, unfortunately, prevent him from returning to the internet.

Around a decade ago, “prank” content creators reached a strange, unexpected tipping point. In short, all of the non-illegal pranks had basically been played out — so, if you’ve built your online brand on being a prankster, what are you supposed to do?

You can do one of three things, it turns out. First, you can simply fake your pranks (this is what most of them did). Second, you can do the world a mercy and stop posting content. Or, third, you can throw morality and legality to the wind and decide to film yourself committing crimes.

That’s exactly what Ilan M., who goes by the online handle “Amine Mojito,” did for a video that resulted in him getting six months of jail time.

The video, which was captioned (translated) “the mad stinger,” shows Ilan sticking people with a fake syringe and then running away, filming their terrified reactions.

The influencer’s actions resulted in dozens of police reports and, eventually, a trial, in which the influencer was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with six suspended. He was also given a fine of €1500.

In trying to defend himself, the influencer claimed he was just “imitating what I saw on the internet.” Yet another reason to ban these guys entirely!
