A U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) employee lost his security clearance after accidentally uploading over 180,000 explicit images to government servers. According to investigators, the man had assembled the collection over 25 to 30 years and planned to use the images to train an A.I. that would generate…well, you know.

He reportedly believed his DOE-issued computer had a separate hard-drive partition that would prevent personal files from being backed up to government servers. That’s not how that works. So when he connected his DOE-issued computer to the DOE network, the whole system backed up — including the loads of spicy imagery.

The funniest part? The man doesn’t even seem too sorry about it. He says that he only moved the collection from his phone to his computer because his phone screen was too small, and that his workplace’s freakout about having their system compromised with 100k+ adult images was akin to, and I’m not joking here, the Spanish Inquisition.

Consequently, he lost his security clearance and has not gotten it back. We can’t imagine why.
