“Your honor, we weren’t stealing data — we were just cranking our hogs!”

Meta is currently being sued for allegedly downloading countless adult video files. According to Ars Technica, a company called Strike 3 Holdings claims there’s evidence of multiple Meta-associated IP addresses illegally downloading their adult content. Given that Meta has previously admitted to illegally downloading books to train their AI, Strike 3 believes the same may have happened with their content.
In response, Meta called the accusation ridiculous — insisting people were only downloading that content for themselves.
Basically, Meta says that the content was downloaded in such small quantities over such a long time that it logically doesn’t make sense that it could be used for AI data training. Instead, the company claims that whoever downloaded the content was not doing so as a part of company policy — and may not even be an employee.
In short, the official Meta position is basically, “these guys just used our WiFi to whack off.” Only time will tell if that holds up in court!
