A lot of people are getting scared about what will happen as AI gets smarter. Will we start to see artificial intelligence as human? And if we do, what does that mean for us morally, practically and legally? Gosh, if only there was a whole field of literature devoted to this very idea!

No matter what happens, people are trying to get ahead of this potential future through legislation. The latest effort to do this is coming out of Ohio, where Rep. Thaddeus Claggett has introduced House Bill 469. This bill would make it illegal for AI systems to be treated like people.

What does that mean? Per Fox News, the proposed legislation would ban AI systems from owning property, holding bank accounts or acting as corporate executives. The bill also emphasizes that AI cannot share the same legal rights or obligations as humans. Furthermore, it says that AIs cannot marry each other — and if you want to marry your computer, you can’t.

Interestingly, the bill also declares that the responsibility of the AI falls upon its creator. This means that, if an AI causes harm, the human owners or developers would be responsible, and they wouldn’t be able to blame the chatbot or AI for its own behavior.

So, if you had a dream about settling down with your AI wife in Cleveland, you’re going to have to throw that future out the window. Then again, there’s no law against dirty talking to your AI — so if you want to get down and dirty with a robot in Toledo, be our guest!
