Japan has seen a surprising increase in bear attacks recently. According to CBS News, around 220 people have been attacked since April 2024, and bear sightings have led to cancellations of major events across the country.
Now, Japan’s Yamagata Airport is claiming that they’ve spent the past day and a half trying to deal with a bear that keeps entering its runway — and because of this bear, the airport has had to briefly cease operations.
Thursday saw a cat-and-mouse game between the airport staff and the bear, with staff eventually managing to chase the beast away with a car. However, given that they don’t know where the bear is, the airport says it’s not exactly comfortable handling passengers yet.
That makes sense — no one wants to start their vacation with a bear attack!
