Remember When That Boat Crashed Into the Baltimore Bridge? Its Crew is Still Stuck in Baltimore
If you had to choose between “being in a major boat accident” and “spending 19 months in Baltimore,” I think most people would go for the former.

Unfortunately for one group of boat workers, they’ve had to experience both.
To bring you up to speed: in March, 2024, a container ship called Dali slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse.
Since then, the remaining crew of the ship has been stuck at port while their respective governments figure out how to handle this situation. Somehow, this process has dragged on for around 19 months.
As noted by The Baltimore Banner, the crew isn’t under arrest — they’re just not allowed to leave Baltimore. They’re currently living in “extended-stay rooms” and cannot leave the area until they receive clarity about a potential criminal case in which they could serve as witnesses.
Keep in mind, the crew had already been away from home for months before the boat crash. This means some crew members haven’t seen their families in over 2 years. The boat itself? Yeah, it’s fine now — and the company behind it has been chartering it with other crews since January.
Although some of the Baltimore crew have been granted temporary permission to return home — one guy had to go back for his own wedding, for example — everyone is required to come back and hang out in Baltimore until their respective governments figure out the next steps.
Let these boys come home — or, at the very least, let them leave Baltimore!
