Someone Keeps Stealing This Man’s Plane, Taking It for a Joyride, Repairing It, Then Returning It

That’s pretty nice of them.

A man in California has a weird problem: Someone keeps stealing his plane, flying it, then bringing it back. Not only that, but they seem to be taking pretty good care of it, even replacing a battery to ensure the plane keeps working as intended.

Jason Hong owns a 1958 Cessna Skyhawk single-engine plane. However, after trying to visit it recently, he discovered that the plane had gone missing. Upon reporting it stolen, he discovered the plane had been flown to another airport — perfectly intact, apart from a bit of garbage.

So, he decided to remove the battery in order to prevent the plane from flying. To his surprise, the thieves apparently just put in a new battery, then took it for another spin. How sweet!

Unfortunately, plane thefts are so uncommon that the hanger doesn’t have security cameras, and the police are so ill-equipped to deal with the issue that they’ve resorted to giving Hong the normal “stolen car” paperwork routine and hoping for the best.

Hong himself is mostly just flabbergasted.

“Someone breaks into your house, they’re looking for jewelry or cash right?” Hong told the L.A. Times. “But in this case, what’s the purpose? It’s like someone breaks my window, and then they put a new one up.”

A valid point!
