The ‘A.I. Actress’ Everyone Is Freaking Out About Probably Isn’t Real

Much like the character itself, the “AI Talent Studio” appears to have pulled the story directly out of their behind.

Yesterday, everyone began freaking out about a new “A.I. actress.” The “talent” is an A.I.-generated teenage girl named “Tilly Norward,” and its creators were quick to tell everyone that she was the next big star with a lot of interest from mainstream Hollywood.

The problem is, they just made all that up. Probably.

Looking deeper into this story, the only sources cited come from the studios creating the character, Xicoia and Particle6, which means they have a fair bit of incentive to juice the details.

But if that’s the case, why is Hollywood interested? Well, they’re probably not. Norward’s creator, Eline Van der Velden — who is an actor and a comedian — is literally the only person who has made any claims about this A.I. actress having representation, telling the Zurich Summit, “We’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months” — which is basically the same thing as your unemployed friend making a Facebook post reading “Big things comin!!1!”

Could there be a single studio dumb enough to sponsor an A.I. model? Sure. But as anyone who’s been to L.A. can tell you, it’s not that hard to get a contract — the hard part is getting hired!

Think about it: If Hollywood really wanted to start using A.I. actors, do you think they would look to a tiny European A.I. production studio? Do you think they would “hire” an A.I. actress with a grand total of 1,400 Instagram followers? Or do you think that they would just use one of the many *freely available tools* to generate an A.I. actress themselves?

Seriously, with the ambiguity of copyright regarding A.I. stuff, they could probably just generate Tilly Norward!

So, no, don’t expect A.I. Tilly Norward to be gracing movie screens anytime soon. Yet again, you can’t believe everything you read on the internet — except if it comes from eBaum’s World. In that case, it gets a thumbs-up.
