The Nobel Peace Prize Committee is Now Embroiled in a Gambling Scandal
When it comes to the possibility of world peace, I’m taking the under.

Over the weekend, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the winner of its 2025 Peace Prize: María Corina Machado of Venezuela.
The decision was met with controversy, but not just because of who was awarded the prize. Rather, the controversy stems from the fact that it seems like someone might’ve placed an inside bet on the outcome.
As reported by the Financial Times, Machado was not seen as a favorite to win, polling at about 3.7 percent on the betting platform Polymarket. However, in the hours leading up to the announcement, her odds suddenly skyrocketed — first to 31.5 percent, then all the way to 73.5 percent. This appears to indicate that someone knew the news before it came out and decided to bet on it.
Now, Norwegian authorities say they’re looking into the matter. It’s alright; I’m sure this scandal won’t discredit the Committee any more than the Kissinger award did!
