Theo Von Says He Didn’t Consent to Being in the Department of Homeland Security’s Deportation Meme Video

He claims his thoughts on immigration are “alot more nuanced” than the 30-second meme video implies.

We live in the dumbest possible timeline. If you need proof of that, look no further than the current X feeds of our various government agencies. In the past few months, they’ve been clogged with some of the worst memes known to man — for example, an A.I. image of the President as the Pope, or another A.I. image of a woman crying while being handcuffed in the style of Studio Ghibli. This is why we need humanities degrees, people! Where’s the imagination?

Most of the time, people just look at these poorly-thought-out memes, groan, then check another day off the calendar. However, sometimes, the people featured in these memes fight back against them.

This recently happened to comedian Theo Von. On September 23rd, the Department of Homeland Security posted a video in the “Hopeless Core” meme style that advertised how many people they were deporting/encouraging to “self-deport.”

While there were several problems with the video (for example, it claims that 1,600,000 million people self-deported, which means that everyone on earth would have self-deport about 200 times for that to make sense), one of the main people who took issue with it was comedian Theo Von. That’s because a clip of him saying, “Heard you got deported, dude. Bye,” was used at the beginning of the video.

In a post quoting the original video, Von wrote, “Yooo DHS i didnt approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check. And please take this down and please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos.”

“When it comes to immigration my thoughts and heart are alot more nuanced than this video allows,” he continued. “Bye!”

Again, dumbest possible reality.
