A deaf woman in California is currently recovering after a custom-built two-seater plane crashed into her while she was walking her dog.

According to The Independent, a man was piloting the aircraft when he suddenly lost power. Believing he had a low chance of survival, he told air traffic control that he would attempt to land in a nearby field. The airplane itself was fully sanctioned and legal to fly in the area.

What the man couldn’t have anticipated was that someone would be in the field — and that the aforementioned person would be deaf, making it impossible for them to hear the approaching plane.

Consequently, the man crashed his plane into the woman, who sustained a fractured spine, a broken pelvis and a large cut on her leg. The woman’s dog sustained no injuries.

So the next time you’re out walking through a field, be sure to glance up every few minutes to avoid an incident like this!
