For months now gamers have been arguing that, while The Legend of Zelda:  Breath of the Wild was almost as good as a game gets, Super Mario Odyssey has a chance to eclipse it for game of the year 2017. And if its first published review is any indication, that just might be true.

The legendary EDGE magazine has published its review of Super Mario Odyssey, giving it an elusive perfect score. Apparently it loved the game, and went on to give it a golden shower in the conclusion paragraph.

EDGE launched in 1993, and during the past 24 years it has only given out 19 perfect scores. In-fact, it's known as the most critical gaming publication in the world, with an average review grade that's 8.8 points less than the average of the industry. In other words, when it gives out a perfect score, it means something.

The 19 perfectly scored games were as follows:

Super Mario 64
Gran Turismo
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Halo: Combat Evolved
Half-Life 2
Halo 3
The Orange Box
Super Mario Galaxy
Grand Theft Auto IV
LittleBigPlanet
Bayonetta
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Rock Band 3
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Last of Us
Grand Theft Auto V
Bayonetta 2
Bloodborne
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Super Mario Odyssey now joins this elite list, which admittedly has several Super Mario games, so some say its reviewers are Mario fanboys. But really, each of these games were well likened by virtually everyone, so they're safe picks.
