Sentimental Blog

I am a deeply sentimental person. I see the romance and tragedy of every day life. For instance, i work for the post office and regularly come across a letter that reeks of perfume, and it warms my heart to think that someone out there is going to receive a letter from the one they love. These letters are often addressed to a local prison. In spite of what these men have done to end up in jail, i can't help but feel that deep down they aren't entirely bad if someone took the time to write them a love letter. This was my inspiration for writing a blog about sentimentality. I also feel sentimental when i see an elderly couple holding hands. To think they have been together for so long and either of them could die any day, but they want to spend their last moments together devoted to each other. I often think back on lost loves and remember the early days when it seemed like we would be together forever and it makes me feel very sentimental.

The 2009 animated movie "up" is extremely sentimental. A bit too sentimental for young children if you ask me. I love the sentimentality of life in general. We are born, we live our lives and we eventually die. I love seeing children playing and remembering how care free i felt when i was that age. There is a quote by Ernest Hemingway which sums up my own sentimentality that goes "My father was a deeply sentimental man. And like all sentimental men, he was also very cruel." I believe what he was saying is that sentimental people are sometimes bound by their emotions but their mood can often change. To be in touch with your emotions gives you the ability to heal or harm other people because you truly see what makes them tick emotionally. Sentimentality is like a power that can be used for good or evil. And with great power comes great responsibility.
