Beer Trivia

Beer Trivia:

When the Pyramids were being built, over 5,000 years ago, the Stonemasons working on the structures were paid with a form of Beer called Kash. That is where we got our modern term for money.

Yes, beer is older than the pyramids!

Another name for beer in the Ancient World was BOOZAH, which is now another name for a heavy drinker and also a slang term for a British pub.

In Anglo Saxon times, drinking goblets were marked with pegs to show how much a person had drunk. This gave us the expression: To take someone down a peg or two. In England, inns in town had to pay a tax known as a Scot. Drinkers who went out of town to rural inns were described as drinking Scot-free.

The term: Toddlers originated in England. There were impurities in the drinking water that disallowed the water to be used for drinking. A common alternative drink was beer. It was cheap, plentiful and the water used to make it was treated during the initial boiling during brewing. Toddlers, just weaning off of mothers milk were unaccustomed to the effects of beer. This coupled with the fact that they were just learning how to walk, really made them toddle.

Beers origin actually comes from ancient Egypt. It was made with grains native to their region and intended for the Pharaoh but tasted a lot different from modern American beer.

The placebo affect really does work. On Myth Busters, they actually had a bar tender give all the Myth Busters non-alcoholic beer. They thought it was real beer and they started to feel the effects of alcohol. They were all acting drunk. They could not walk a straight line, etc. Then they were told that all the beer they had was fake.

The reason they dont give you a straw and ice in beer at bars is, because:

1.Ice waters the beer down.

2.Beer is cheap and they can afford to fill the glass all the way up.

With hard liquor, they fill the glass with ice, because that is expensive.

3.When you drink with a straw, you drink slower than if you just drink out of a bottle or glass and it doesnt taste as good if you drink slowly. Also, the faster you drink, the more you buy and the more money they make.

They give you Pretzels in the bar, not only to soak up the beer in your system and make sure you dont get drunk as fast, but also, because they are salty and they make you thirsty. That way you will want to buy more.

You think the US is harsh on drunk drivers? In some countries they will execute people for the first or second offense!

Ethanol and water mixture (booze) will burn if the amount of ethanol in the mix is higher than 50%. Back before the turn of the century, flammability used as Proof of strength of booze. Since 50% ethanol will burn, it is said to be 100 proof. Therefore the proof rating is simply double the purity. One hundred percent ethanol is 200 Proof.

In Canada the drinking age is 19.

Germany and a lot of other European countries it is 18.

If a Coyote is caught in a trap, it will chew its leg off to get out of the trap. This is how we get the expression: Coyote Ugly. When you get drunk and meet an ugly girl or guy at the bar and bring them home and get in bed with them, you wake up in the morning and that person is sleeping on your arm, you would rather chew your arm off then risk waking them up! (Been there, done that, LOL!)

In old English pubs, beer was served by Pints and Quarts. When customers got rowdy in the bar, the bar tender would tell them to calm down and Mind their Ps and Qs!

BTW, although it is a good brand and it has always called itself an American beer, Budweiser sold the company to a foreign country. They still claim to be an American beer; however, we should protest and boycott the company.
