pawn takes King Part 53

Donny had no possession left. John Kiefer was kind enough to leave the futon, which is all Donny really needed. As Donny sat on the cushion, looking at the bare walls, he couldn't believe it. After years under the gazebo, the tiny room was his now. It was almost too easy. Considering the crimes Donny had committed, the turnaround was almost effortless. Donny considered that he did not deserve such an uncomplicated escape. He wants to keep this. He never wants to be homeless again. Ever. Donny didn't believe in God, so he prayed to his passed father instead.

"I swear to you, Ronald," DOnny whispers aloud, "my dad, I'll make it up to Ben. Everything I do from here on out is for Ben."

With his vow reinforced, and no other worries to plague him, Donny went to sleep.

Nancy requested that Donny begin teaching a beginner computer class to any resident that wished to reenter the workforce. Donny agreed wholeheartedly. The classes started out small, but grew overtime. WIth the methadone to help, DOnny no longer would shrink from responsibility once the drugs came calling. He was no longer at the whim of pharmaceuticals.
