Though Zack Snyder’s filmmaking has long been up for debate among cinephiles everywhere (I get the Justice League Snyder cut, but did we really need the black-and-white Justice Is Gray?), one detail about him has emerged as an indisputable fact — he can absolutely fucking skate.

Back in 2020, Snyder’s hidden talent at skateboarding found its way to the forefront of social media, as a clip of him shredding throughout the filming of 2013’s Man of Steel proved he’s more than his (oft-mediocre) behind-the-camera POV. “Skateboarding in the House of El,” Snyder captioned the clip shared to his Vero account, which garnered thousands of likes, several Twitter reposts and likely more than a handful of tears of pride from pro skater Tony Hawk.

But it seems Snyder is far from alone when it comes to having fun on set while the cameras aren’t rolling.

Earlier this week, several film fans took to Twitter to share their favorite snaps of directors behind the scenes, replying to @awoodustin’s viral request for some of the “coolest” snaps of a director doing their thing.

From the DC icon’s shred sesh, to Steven Spielberg hanging with Bruce the Shark on the set of Jaws, to the time-travel-vibes of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette shoot, here are some of Twitter’s favorite behind-the-scenes movie moments…
