UPDATE: Matthew Perry has apologized for his questioning why Keanu Reeves "still walks among us" in a statement to People. His statement reads - "I'm actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead."

Matthew Perry has a new memoir coming out, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, and in the book, Perry takes on the subject of talented actors dying before their time. In one of the strangest passages, he then questions why Keanu Reeves is "still walking among us."

Perry begins by praising actor, River Phoenix. “River was a beautiful man, inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?"

The statement definitely comes out of left field, and had the internet quickly defending Keanu Reeves, who has seemingly done nothing wrong.

In 1999, his daughter Ava Archer Syme-Reeves was stillborn. 2 Years later his girlfriend Jennifer Maria Syme was killed in a car accident. Through all of it, Reeves has tried to maintain a positive outlook on life.

A well-documented alcoholic, Matthew Perry is most known for his role in the show Friends...and not much else. While Keanu Reeves boasts an eclectic professional resume not limited to one of the most successful franchises in film history with The Matrix.

By all accounts Reeves is also a damn nice guy. So maybe Matthew should pick a different battle.
