If the prospects of throwing down thousands of dollars on airline tickets have made you put off your Hong Kong holiday, you can finally “delay no more” … and we don’t just mean fucking mother (iykyk).

On Friday, May 17, airline Cathay Pacific gave away several free plane tickets to the Asian city from several North American locales as a part of Hong Kong Tourism Board’s  “Hello Hong Kong” campaign aimed at garnering international tourists after several years of strict Covid-19 related travel protocols.

"A limited number of roundtrip economy class tickets to Hong Kong will be offered in the U.S. beginning May 17 at 5:00 p.m. PST/ 8:00 p.m. EST," read an email from the board on how registered Cathay members could snag tickets per Travel Weekly. “There is a limit of one ticket per transaction while supplies last."

Despite only offering 2,890 seats on flights out of Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco and 1,555 seats on flights out of Toronto and Vancouver, more than 73,000 users gave it a go for the American flights with over 41,000 vying for those out of Canada, according to the South China Morning Post.

Considering their noble efforts – flying to Hong Kong from cities like New York and Los Angeles will usually set you back a couple of thousand dollars – those attempting to snag the seats were filled with the highest highs and lowest lows, as several Twitter users noted.

“If I get the free tickets from @cathaypacific… I’m gonna piss on the aisle for all the people who this contest screwed over,” threatened Twitter user @koreano_213 alongside a snap of their place in the queue.

“I got into the cathay pacific free hk tickets sign-in page (was lucky enough to get queue number 760) AND GOT THIS PAGE WHEN I TRIED TO SIGN IN,” added @kyutestpie with a photo of the error message.
