While some countries have a “come on in” attitude with their borders, others defend them at all costs. “No one shall pass through this border without my say-so,” these countries say — and to enforce this, they fortify their borders with walls, checkpoints, and in the case of India, guards wielding sci-fi weaponry.

That’s right. Rather than patrol their border with China using guns, India has cracked open a few comic books and developed a host of fantasy-inspired tools of carnage.

According to an article in Sandboxx, there’s actually a reason for this peculiar weaponry. “The two countries went to war in 1962 over their border disputes. Then, in a 1996 agreement known as the Line of Actual Control, they agreed that neither side can open ‘fire or hunt with guns or explosives within two kilometers’ from a boundary called the line of actual control.

As a result of this agreement, both sides have taken to using a variety of strange armaments. The Chinese have been seen using “machetes, clubs embedded with nails and batons wrapped with barbed wire,” while the Indian Army has opted for a more shocking solution.

According to the India Times, the weapons shown in the above tweet were “created on request by the Indian security forces,” and the designs themselves were inspired by Indian mythology. The trident is called “Vajra,” and is meant to evoke the instrument used by Lord Shiva, while the other weapon has the slightly less elegant name of “Sapper Punch.”

It’s unclear if these are available for civilians, but if so, I definitely want the glove — for the best Captain Falcon Smash Bros. cosplay ever.
