In case you missed the earth-shattering news, actress Jessica Biel recently cut all her hair off. I know, I know, it’s major. She debuted the haircut in a video uploaded to Instagram, uploaded with the caption, “Brought back the fuck ass Bob,” leading many commenters to wonder if it was a sign of trouble in paradise in her relationship with husband Justin Timberlake.

Several comments on the post suggest as much, with one fan writing, “Someone is having a love breakdown… I wonder what Justin did this time…” while others argued over whether long or short hair suited Biel better.

Over on Twitter, fans were wondering the same thing, with one replying to TMZ, “When a woman cuts off her long hair its over.” A popular Twitter user tweeted simply, “Oh she’s getting ready to leave him,” with several people in the replies responding with a quote attributed to French fashion designer and Nazi collaborator, Coco Chanel: “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.”

Post breakup haircuts are definitely a thing, and according to one psychologist, a haircut can signal four possible things: 1) a loss of control; 2) an avoidance mechanism; 3) a desire for reinvention; or 4) a desire for a boost of confidence.

In Biel’s case, unless we hear otherwise, it would seem to be one of the last two reasons. After all, Timberlake commented his approval on the post, writing, “”, which would be an odd thing to do if she were getting the haircut to celebrate cutting him loose. The couple recently celebrated Mother’s Day with their two children, with Timberlake posting a video to Instagram featuring his song “Mirrors,” which is thought to be about her. And he specifically used the lines, “You are you are / The love of my life” on repeat throughout the video.

So it would seem likely that she’s just cut her hair — not cut Timberlake out of her life.
