The Xenomorph from the Alien series is alive, well, and apparently, traversing the depths of the Southern Ocean, according to a handful of social media horror fans.

Researchers recently announced that while searching the sea for “cryptic” sea creatures known as Antarctic feather stars — or Promachocrinus if you’re nasty — they accidentally stumbled across a terrifying “large” new species.

Boasting 20 arms, the Strawberry Feather Star earned its nickname for its “strawberry-like” body shape and coloring that can appear anywhere from “dark reddish” to “purplish,” yet the vast majority of film fans felt the deep sea creature resembled something very different — the terrifying monster starring in Ridley Scott’s beloved horror series.

“Looks like a Facehugger from Alien,” wrote @JHallDaBoss on a YouTube news clip detailing the nightmare-inducing find.

“New species found deep in the waters of Antarctica. It has 20 arms,” added @MrEricLange on Twitter. “Rumor has it, it wraps around your head and impregnates you with its spawn which later pop out of your chest.”

“Face looks like a facehugger bro,” observed Redditor u/mannen588.

But it wasn’t just Alien that nabbed all the attention, several other users likening the creature to the creatures of horror movies past, present, and future.

“It’s probably a baby Cloverfield and we are all f-----d,” speculated redditor u/chickenboneneck referencing the iconic 2008 monster movie.

Meanwhile, u/SpiritedObjective773 compared the discovery as a whole to the plot of a campy slasher picture.

“Why does this sound like the beginning of some 50s science fiction film?” they asked.

But regardless of whether the Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star looks like something out of Alien, Cloverfield or any popular monster flick for that matter, one thing is certain — to paraphrase @Grifftre, that f----ng thing need to go back in the water right now.
