Earlier this month, three men set out to complete what could have been the heist of the century. First, they would break into the abandoned Medium Security Institution near St. Louis, Missouri. Then, they would do… I don’t know, something. Once they had done whatever it was they planned to do, they would escape. No one would know a thing,

That, however, is not what happened. According to local NBC affiliate KSDK, when the trio tried to break into this former jail, they found out that it was filled with, surprise surprise, jail cells — and when they tried to explore the area further, they accidentally locked themselves inside.

Per KSDK, police received a call from one guy in the group while they were still stuck in the cell. After, I’m assuming, a long conversation in which the men had to explain that yes they were in jail but not like in “jail jail,” the police arrived and freed our poor dudes.

Then, they arrested them again.

“[Sgt. Charles] Wall said the men face possible charges for property damage, burglary and stealing,” reads the KSDK piece.

We don’t know what will happen to them yet, but police say that “an investigation is ongoing” — and it’s unlikely that a phone call to 911 will get them out of jail this time around.
