Drake Passage - tiktok, antactica

Antarctica has never been a popular tourist destination, and understandably so. The coldest place on Earth is not only frigid but is a long way from anywhere else. To get there, you have to cross the infamous Drake Passage, a stretch of notoriously stormy waters between the bottom of Argentina, and the bottom of the world. But in this modern digital age, those actually taking the trip are filming it, and the voyage looks as terrifying as it does enticing.

@mylifesatravelmovie This is my 6th #drakepassage crossing and can confirm that yes, it is that bad. Take Dramamine & you’ll be fine-ish! #antarctica #drakeshake #drakeshakechallenge #mylifesatravelmovie #bucketlist ♬ Titanic - Titanic

The fascination began when TikTok traveler Natasha Travels posted a clip of herself in her cabin crossing the passage. People were astounded by the rough waves and the video soon after went viral, racking up over 34 million views. Natasha has since started posting vlogs of her journey to Antarctica.

While the Drake passage looks tough, the trip itself seems mesmerizing. All around you is land untouched by the contamination of man-made enterprise, and views that have scarcely been gazed upon by human eyes. Islands dotted with penguins are open for visiting, and the ship itself is as luxurious as a purpose-built arctic cruiser could hope to be. It's no wonder the trip is so alluring.

As cool as it all looks, according to Natasha, the trip will set you back anywhere from $7-12k and takes quite a few days. Well, that might make it difficult for most people, but thanks to Drake Passage TikTok, the bottom of the world might just become the next top tourist trap.
