With a 113-111 win yesterday over the Lebron James-led Lakers, the Denver Nuggets finished off a decisive 4-0 series sweep to advance to the NBA Finals. They are currently heavy favorites to win it all against their likely opponent, the Miami Heat.
In the series, the Nuggets were led by Western Conference Finals MVP Nikola Jokić, who pulled out a clutch 30-point triple-double in game 4. After winning back-to-back league MVPs in 2021 and 2022, the seven-foot Serbian Center seems set to secure the biggest prize of them all this year, firmly placing himself atop the mountain of NBA superstars. But who the hell is he?
Taken with the 42nd pick in the 2nd round of 2014’s NBA draft, Jokić was such an unknown prospect that he was selected during a Taco Bell commercial break. In later interviews, he claimed that he was sleeping during his pick, and was awoken by a phone call from his brother with the news.

With Jokić now firmly in the NBA spotlight, old photos of the superstar are emerging, and giving chubby kids around the world hope that they too can one day accomplish their dreams. Move over Lebron, Steph, and six-packs everywhere. Man-boobs are the real face of the NBA now.

Jokić’s dry sense of humor and gentle giant demeanor have made him a fan favorite, and earned him the nickname ‘The Joker.’
The NBA Finals begin on June 1, and the whole world will be watching to see if a big kid from Serbia can conquer the NBA. And this time, it won’t be during a Taco Bell commercial.
