Hosting a dinner party with friends? Fun. Hosting a PowerPoint party with friends? What the hell is wrong with you?

Recently, a user on TikTok posted an allegedly “fun” idea for a get-together. In short, you make a PowerPoint about your job, then show it to all of your friends as they drink wine. “this your sign to host a PowerPoint night with your friends to finally figure out what the heck they actually do for work,” writes the user in the text overlaying the video.

Some people just really miss having homework, huh?

While this was originally reposted on X/Twitter with glee (OP says he’s now going to be planning a similar party), user reactions on the site were justifiably horrified. As it turns out, most of us want to keep our work as work and don’t want to have to do more work in order to talk about… work. Goddamn, that sentence gave me a headache.

Some simply expressed disgust.

Others noted, that a) some friendships aren’t based on work; b) if you care about what your friends do but you don’t know about it already, you might not be as close of friends as you thought; and c) if your job needs a PowerPoint presentation to be explained, it might not be that meaningful of a job in the first place.

Here’s a hot take: If you care about what your friends do, just ask them. Otherwise, just drink beers and complain about your boss like normal people.
