It’s not fun being stubborn. Stubborn people know that, whether they want to admit it or not, and everyone around them knows it, too. One woman recently found out just how much it sucks being stubborn when she refused to listen to her boyfriend’s advice and ended up ruining her own proposal.

A young woman named Amelia posted a video explaining that her boyfriend told her to wear a pretty flowy dress for their day out, and in response she got mad at him, saying, “Don’t tell me how to dress,” and opting to wear cargo pants instead. Of course, he suggested a nice dress because he was planning to propose, and propose he did anyway, cargo pants notwithstanding.
In the caption, Amelia wrote, “Ladies, maybe we don’t need to pick a fight every time,” although I empathize with not liking being told what to do. Commenters shared their own similar stories, with one person writing that their friend got proposed to in a Lil Jon shirt and shorts, which is the most 2000s proposal story I’ve ever heard. One man wrote that he told his wife to slow down on the drinking only for her to be hammered at their proposal, which is a little darker than the Lil Jon story. A different woman said she ruined her proposal when her partner tried to take her on a sunset boat ride and she said no, which begs the question: Who turns down a sunset boat ride?
Multiple commenters argued that they would’ve got the “ick” from her behavior and canceled the proposal, to which others pointed out that ultimately it isn’t about what she was wearing, but the commitment to each other. Evidently, he loves her even if she can occasionally be stubborn and argumentative.
The cargo pants weren’t the only obstacle either; in a second video, Amelia shared other problems the couple encountered, including bad weather, a spider on their car and a bug in someone’s eye (yes, the couple is from Australia), but she concluded that even though all of those things happened, “the day was perfect” and “when you find a man that loves you through all your mistakes and sees the best in you, you marry him.”
Aw. Congratulations to the happy couple! Let’s reconvene after the wedding to see if Amelia opted to recite her vows like she was asked by the officiant.
