When life gives you lemons you make lemonade… specifically with other lemons you went out of your way to buy and pay for at the grocery store.

Karly, better known by her TikTok username, @goodluckkarly, headed to social media this weekend with a confession: She had spent years buying lemons because she believed the ones growing on her trees were inedible.

“I can’t be the only person on the planet who didn’t know you can just pick a piece of fruit off a tree and eat it,” the 28-year-old influencer began her now-viral video, in what may be the understatement of the century.

Her discovery that lemon trees create edible lemons came a few weeks back after a friend began asking her about why she had a whole bag of the sour fruit sitting in her fridge when she had a tree growing in her backyard.

After several moments of back and forth, Karly continually failing to understand her friend’s ask — “I use lemons in my cooking and sometimes I put them in my sparkling water,” she replied  — her bud finally decided to break it down, calling her out on the elephant, or should we say lemon tree, in the room.

“She said ‘Karly, you have a lemon tree. You just pick the lemons off the tree and you put them in your food or in your sparkling water” her bud explained, a concept that evidently blew her mind.

So take it from Karly — while lemons may grow on trees, common sense most certainly does not.
