Why Jesus Messed up in Today's Society.

One of my favorite parables is when Jesus says, "He who has not sinned, cast the first stone". Perhaps back in those days there was at least one person who was without sin. For if there was not, then who would punish the wrong doer? And if the wrong doer can go unpunished then what was to stop them from doing wrong again? It could be, yet not reported, that Jesus picked up a rock and punished the sinner, seeing as he was all perfect. Yet I highly doubt that and as things went in the New Testament, you can be pretty sure the sinner was forgiven.

Now fast forward to today and try to apply Jesus's parable to those who would sin or transgress against humanity. Who is there available sin free or morally perfect capable of punishing those who do wrong? No one. Sure, we can easily identify and accept violent crime, overt thievery, decadent behavior that affects others, and certain social faux pas as easily and morally punishable. But what of those immoral acts that hide under the covers or are veiled in secrecy?

It was a few years ago that I proposed the world at all levels of government, corporations and even many humanitarian organisations were eventually owned or controlled by psychopaths and sociopaths. I received a lot of flack for that, but had some great discussions as well by those who didn't just disintegrate the conversation into a barrage of insults. Today, I feel my proposal would get less argument and perhaps I can explain the phenomenon in a unsophisticated way.

When I was still quite naive, my future father in law revealed to me how a city police force becomes corrupted. It starts with those leather bound note books they carry, in which they make notes of certain events. These events do not have to be associated with a crime or some kind of investigation, they can be just random observations with, why, who, what, when. Back in the 60's and 70's and possibly the 80's, an officer in my father in law's police force had to be in full uniform while on duty. On hot days or perhaps on break while having a coffee they would remove their hat, which was a violation. Certain ambitious officers would make note and now held something over the officer. Of course, there were worse violations that took place during parties, especially when more women joined the force. And it wasn't just the men who were the aggressors.

A few years later my wife worked for the Federal government. Her boss was a "Chief" of his department and she was his secretary. There was a certain desirable errand that had to be run every few months involving the transfer of microfiche in a locked case handcuffed to the employee. It included an all paid trip to many places in Canada and a good time was had by all. When the count of microfiche was low and only one person could go, the chief would divide the microfiche into more suitcases so that more employees could go and have fun. This insured a loyal staff and allowed the chief to take advantage of the situation and he did big time, but not only that other chiefs of other departments made photocopies of each others questionable work orders and purchases.

As you can see in both examples, if Jesus asked those in those organizations who were without sin to cast the first stone, then no one could be punished. Even the single mother who brings home some pencils and loose-leaf for her child can be caught up in the circle. This is why I believe even good intentioned people and politicians get caught up in situations that erode our moral fabric and make the world a worse place in which to live.

Jesus, if there are none among us worthy to stop this death spiral, then you better get your ass back here and set it right!
